To wake up in the morning I must have a series of alarms. Right now, I have two cell phones (don't ask) so, I set the older one at 6:00am and the newer, which I can set multiple times, is set for 6:45, 7:00, and 7:15 am. They all went off as planned however, I set an additional one after the last one to go off at 7:30am and not until 7:35 did I rise for the morning. In order for me to get to work (in Germantown, MD) on time (9am) I need to leave the house no later than 7:45am. Who gets dress in 10min? No one if you need to do half the things I do in the morning. Anyway, I made my way out the door at about 8:06am (hair was still wrapped up though), which only leaves 54min to get there. Not going to happen! I get on 495 already concocting a lie as to why I'm late. This is going on for like 5 minutes in my head. In the mornings in my car is when I have my God time. Naturally, I started figuring out if I was going to listen to music, pray or just sit silent (like yesterday). I was so conscious about the fact that I was about to lie but instead of me asking for forgiveness I was like "Lord maybe I can listen to something that will deter me from lying and just tell the truth". Honestly, I was just joking to myself. Music originally won the game I was playing in my head. So, I put in Casting Crowns CD and played one song (Your Love is Extravagant) and then I put in the Bible Experience. I was able to listen to Ephesians, Phillipians, and half of Colossians by the time I reached work. In the midst of listening to the cd, I totally put the tensions of my lie out of my mind and relaxed. Do you know that I got to work only 5 minutes late? This means that I didn't even have to use whatever lie I was trying to come up with. That's amazing because traffic was heavy and I don't even remember everything about my travels because I was so focused on the Word.
Staying focused on the Word definitely keeps you from stupidly sinning. Lying is such a stupid sin to me and I can't stand it. I have a brother who is a compulsive liar and I can't be an example for him if I'm lying too. He may not know that I was going to lie this morning about why I was late but I know. I was listening to 91.9 yesterday and the radio personality said that a survey showed that most people say they believe in God but don't go to church because of hypocrites in church. This is not a newsflash to me but it is a reminder that I don't want to be the wrinkle that makes my church a hypocritical church. Our motto is Serving Our Lord with Excellence and our mission statement is Making Contemporary Disciples to Confront the problems of a Contemporary World. I want to be a part of that!

I like the way you stayed on track and by staying in the word, it turned you around and kept you from lying. I would like to know where you got your bible cd's from, it's hard to determine which one in the store is good to listen to.
sibyl
I am learning a lot about you from this blog Patrice! I found out that we have similar style of waking up. I set a couple of phone alarms (5:50 and 6:05) which I keep putting on snooze until about 6:30 even though I should get up by 6:15 at the latest. I am supposed to leave by 7, and it never happens. This morning, I shut off the snooze and didn’t wake back up until 6:45 so I had five more minutes than you to get ready. lol
Somehow I always end up at work on time or no later than 10 mins….except for yesterday which is another story (driving around Metro for 30 mins trying to find a parking space with no luck THEN having to drive away with a taxi trailing me, park, and take the taxi BACK to the station). Anyway, glad you didn’t have to lie about anything. I was in your shoes yesterday and I was so frustrated with my trip into work that I contemplated just calling in sick so I could go home. I didn’t and even though I was late, my boss was very cool about it. Things happen, and usually if you are honest, people understand.
Sibyl, I have the cd's called the Bible Experience. You should look on Amazon.com or go to the Christian bookstore in Bowie and ask them to order it for you. It's a recording of celebrities reading the bible. Blair Underwood is performing as Jesus! I love his voice. Anyway, it's a great product. Actually Barnes and Noble sell it too.
Lanette, girl I am learning about myself through this blog. The more I have to tell you guys the more I learn. Waking up in the morning is a MAJOR task for me! Fortunately, I have cool bosses too, probably because one of them is late just like me if I don't beat her here. LOL
Amen to that! We do have to keep our mission statement in mind at all times. Making contemporary disciples to confront the problems of a contemporary world needs to be our mission/guiding light in daily life. Talk to people about doing right, instead of co-signing about doing wrong or giving energy to what wrong has been done to them.
