Yesterday, I was very reclusive by default. I didn't want anyone to talk to me and I didn't want to talk to anyone. I came to work yesterday morning and I knew I had lots of work to do so I wouldn't think about food. Unfortunately, it didn't happen that way! I didn't make things easier for myself because I still had the instant oatmeal in the cabinet that I normally eat in the morning, along with other snacks that we aren't supposed to eat during this time.....temptation just staring me in the face. Well, I snapped at someone at least once and immediately felt like I needed to check my attitude. On the document about the fast, they should have put on there "don't complain or be awnry about it". I guess some could say that its implied but for people like me it was needed but it's cool because God showed me yesterday that I wasn't honoring the fast by having this "leave me alone" attitude. So, I got up at 11am and went to Whole Foods (got lost on the way) and found some prepared brown rice with vegetables and some trail mix. Unfortunately, neither of those items were good to me but I ate them anyway. Also, my job bring in a different vendor everyday to provide lunch for us for like $5 and it's good food. The blessing for me yesterday was that the vendor didn't show up so I didn't have to deal with the temptation of going to them after my whole foods ordeal.
Knowing me is to know that I am the pickiest person on the earth but I'm trying to work it out. So anyway, after that experience I went to Giant Food and got some fruits, oatmeal, juice, and some meatless veggie products. I'm looking forward to finding new things to eat and I need everyone's help. Especially as it pertains to dinner.

It's great to hear that even though yesterday was tough, you stuck with it!
I noticed you said you're picky, so let me ask, if we weren't on the fast, what are some of your favorite things to eat? I'm sure we can help come up with some decent "legal" substitutes.
I'm really excited about this blog! It's pretty tough to find support during the workday. Keep it up...
My favorite things to eat are chicken, fish, and only certain veggies. I love cheese! It's a great thing that we're on this fast because I believe my sugar intake was extreme and I've been wanting to cut back on sugar. Diabetes run in my family and I don't want it to run this way! In addition, I love Pepsi! Although, it's not that big of a deal...I can cut that out. My biggest problem is the veggies. I don't really have the time to cook them the way I like them so I usually go without because most restaurants or people never make them the way I like. I have no choice now but to cook if I want to eat! I think I might do a sweet potato and some broccoli tonight and maybe some corn.
This is really cool to talk to someone about this. It's not easy but I'm seeking God on some things and fasting is allowing me to hear Him clearly so I refused to give up!
This is why I love this idea!
Patrice, I'm like you and didn't really prepare well for this fast and the first two days have been tough but I'm also not giving up.
I guess if I were in your position right now, I'd try to grab a salad...a big one and maybe something like granola or peanuts. Later on you could make your own trail mix (without those delicious M&Ms). The main goal is to get through the afternoon. The good news is, the day is half over.
I hope the Whole Food experience didn't completely turn you off. There are many things in that store that can save you during the fast and maybe even after it's over.
A bigggggg salad sounds like a plan! You know doing thanksgiving and Christmas, I was stuffed after every meal and it wasn't that much food at all! But now that I'm eating healthier, I can't seem to get full! Yesterday, I just gave up trying to eat and went to bed.
I didn't get turned off by Whole Foods I just know I need to take more time to browse and think through my choices.
By the way, my trail mix had banana chips, cranberries, cashews, dates, and coconut chips. I liked the cranberries and cashews. I could do without the banana chips because they taste like sugar. In fact I read the ingredients for them and it says organic bananas, organic coconut oil and organic sugar. Needless to say, I won't be eating the banana chips again.
I'm not sure what brand of meatless products you bought, but I suggest Quorn. They have great nuggets, breaded cutlets, and my favorite, "boneless" chicken breasts (called Naked Cutlets). I use them all the time to make my chicken dishes. They even have a "turkey roast" (It was a lifesaver at Thanksgiving!).
They sell Quorn at Whole Foods, Giant, some Shoppers (College Park has them), and some Food Lions as well.
I bought some breaded chicken cutlets and nuggets last night and I think they are made by Veggie patch. I had a cutlet last night and I didn't like it. So, I'll go to the store today and see if I can find your brand.
I don't think I've had any Veggie Patch stuff. If I can't find Quorn, my next choice is always the Morningstar Brand(great chicken fingers and sausage). Since it's a part of my regular diet, I've given up the mock meats, so I'm living through you! lol
What I wouldn't give to have a Quorn Naked Cutlet! lol
I'm like Lanette and have given up my alternatives since that is my regular diet but if I were a meat eater, I'd be dining on a Quorn Naked Cutlet, sautéed in onions and garlic, over seasoned brown rice with steamed broccoli. I'm so jealous!! lol
Lanette, this is the first time I had this Veggie Patch brand....but I love the Morningstar sausage! I was first introduced to that at breakfast with Jamila....I'm really going to have to look into this Quorn brand....because I would honestly say to stay away from Veggie Patch. Silly me was like "let me see if I was just cranky last night" and so I just tried another one and it was just as bad as the first time. So, I've decided to eat some grapes instead.
